The Dingo Scout Car was designed to give Australia an armoured reconnaissance vehicle, as all British-made Daimler Scout Cars were needed for Britains own war effort. It was manufactured by Ford, based on a commercial truck chassis, and was armed with only a single light machine gun. Because it was based on a truck chassis, the Dingo was very fast on road, but lacked the off-road capabilities of purpose-build reconnaissance vehicles.
