While the Heavy Tank, M26 only saw limited service during World War II, it proved to be a potent combination of armour protection and firepower, with only two Pershings being lost in action - both to German 88 mm guns (on a Tiger I and a Nashorn, respectively).
The Pershing was used until 1969 in the Belgian army, having served a full quarter of a century.
