The Stridsvagn m/40 was produced by Landsverk under the designation Landsverk L-60. It was the first tank in the world to use a torsion bar suspension, and was sold to several countries, including Hungary who made a license-produced version with the Toldi tank series.
Karlsverk later produced an up-armoured version of the Stridsvagn m/40, after which the Landsverk version received the designation Stridsvagn m/40L (with a total production of 100 tanks) and the Karlsverk version received the designation Stridsvagn m/40K (with a total production of 80 tanks). In order to maintain the speed despite the 1,8 t weight increase, a more powerful engine was installed.
