The Jagdpanzer 38, based on the Pz Kpfw 38 (t) was originally developed as an interim replacement for the Sturmgeschütz III, after the Alkett factory was bombed by the Allies.
Re-designated as a tank destroyer, it was a deadly threat to Allied tanks, thanks to its small size. It was, however, very cramped, and was thinly armoured on its sides and rear.
